Concessionary Fares UK 2006

New report offers essential insights

The new 2006 report on concessionary fares throughout the UK provides essential background, information and analysis for authorities, operators and their advisers.

Over the last 15 years, TAS has published five reports on Concessionary Travel in the UK - with previous editions in 1992, 1995, 1998 and 2003. All proved to be very successful, providing an invaluable source of reference to local authorities, policy-makers, public transport operators and advisers.

With major changes to legislation and operation in England and Scotland taking effect this April, this new report considers many of the issues that are exercising everybody's minds at present.

The new 90-page report comes in nine sections, including:

  • Introduction and Commentary
  • Influences on Demand for Concessionary Travel
  • Legislative Background
  • Scheme Analysis - updated information from our 2001 survey
  • Principles of Reimbursement and Generation
  • Free Travel and Reimbursement
  • Concessions for Young People

Information you will receive from the report includes:

  • Totals for spending on concessions in different parts of the country, with trend and unit cost data
  • An insight into the qualifying population and how this will change in the period up to 2010
  • An understanding of the influences on demand for travel by concessionary pass holders, including car ownership, security fears and bus service quality
