Data on the supply side and structure, including unique market share calculations

Government at national and local level continues to have a major role in funding the rail industry, both in terms of  operating subsidy and investment support. This section analyses current and future spending trends, including authority by authority analysis

  • Volume 3: Investment Analysis  

    The question of investment is crucial to the success of Britain's railway network. This volume looks at the two principal areas of investment:

    • Vehicles

      The passenger railway fleet, including current fleet profiles, new rolling stock orders, manufacturers' market share

    • Infrastructure

      Important analysis is provided on the whole subject of infrastructure investment, including historic and future trends.

  • Volume 4: The Passenger Railway

    The financial and commercial performance of the Train Operating Companies and their owners is crucial to the future of passenger services. This volume provides unique analysis of their financial performance, with network maps, commentaries and vital statistics

  • Volume 5: The Freight Railway

    After stalling for two or three years, freight volumes are growing strongly once more - unlike the operators' profits. This volume presents the facts of their performance including the latest statistics, financial performance and investment records
